If you didn't know, there are hundreds of tomato varieties. Their sizes from the size of a grape to orange sized ones. Colors range from deep crimson to orange, yellow, green, purple, and chocolate. The tomato is native to western South America. Wild versions were small, like cherry tomatoes, and most likely yellow rather than red. Tomato varieties can be divided into categories based on shape and size. These are: beefsteak tomatoes, plum tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, campari tomatoes, tomberries, oxheart tomatoes, pear tomatoes, "slicing" or "globe" - the usual ones you can find in any market. Though it is botanically a berry, a subset of fruit, the tomato is a vegetable for culinary purposes because of its savory flavor.
