About
This game is based on famous Japanese folk tales. Momotarō is a boy who was found in a huge peach (hence his name, "peach boy"). When he grows up, he goes to the island of demons, fights them, takes their treasure, and restores peace in his village. The events of the game take place after Momotarō Densetsu II. The player doesn't play as Momotarō, but control three other protagonists inspired by Japanese folklore, all recurring characters in the series, accross three separate stories: there is Yashahime, the daughter of the Hell King Emma; Binbōgami, or "poverty god", who is hated by people because he takes money from them; and Urashima, the legendary fisherman who once saved a turtle and became friends with the dragon clan. Although the original stories have nothing or little to do with each other or the story of Momotarō, the game ties the stories together by featuring Momotarō as a non playing character in every one of them. Despite being primarily a game for kids (the story is told in a fairy-tale fashion), this is a full-fledged Japanese-style RPG with levels, party management, world map traveling, dungeons, towns, weapons and armors, and turn-based combat against randomly appearing enemies, viewed from first person perspective. Binbōgami, who was a joke enemy in the first two games, has the most bare-bones scenario which only involves 1 vs 1 fights, similar to Dragon Quest. Urashima's scenario ressembles Dragon Quest II: there is a party of 3 which includes Kintaro, a sumo wrestler who was also playable in Momotarō Densetsu II, and the tanuki Kamuro. Finally, Yashahime's scenario is similar to Dragon Quest III as she must assemble a party out of many characters, all with different abilities.
