<h2>Overview</h2><figure data-align="right" data-size="small" data-img-src="https://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/8303/1260283-vp_gen4.png" data-ref-id="1300-1260283" data-ratio="0.70175438596491" data-width="456" data-embed-type="image" style="width: 456px"><a class="fluid-height" style="padding-bottom:70.2%" href="https://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/8303/1260283-vp_gen4.png" data-ref-id="1300-1260283"><img alt="No Caption Provided" src="https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/scale_small/0/8303/1260283-vp_gen4.png" srcset="https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/original/0/8303/1260283-vp_gen4.png 456w, https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/scale_small/0/8303/1260283-vp_gen4.png 320w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" data-width="320"></a></figure><p>Viewpoint (also known as <em>View Point</em>) is a sci-fi <a href="/isometric-viewpoint/3015-246/" data-ref-id="3015-246">isometric-scrolling</a> shoot-'em-up developed by <a href="/sammy-corporation/3010-569/" data-ref-id="3010-569">Sammy</a> and released by <a href="/snk/3010-616/" data-ref-id="3010-616">SNK</a> for <a href="/arcade/3045-84/" data-ref-id="3045-84">arcades</a> (running Neo Geo MVS hardware) on November 20, 1992.</p><p>It is seen as a <a href="/spiritual-successor/3015-425/" data-ref-id="3015-425">spiritual successor</a> to <a href="/sega/3010-62/" data-ref-id="3010-62">Sega's</a> 1982 arcade game <a href="/zaxxon/3030-9547/" data-ref-id="3030-9547">Zaxxon</a>, where players scroll in an <a href="/isometric-viewpoint/3015-246/" data-ref-id="3015-246">isometric perspective</a>.</p><p>It was later released for the <a href="/neo-geo/3045-25/" data-ref-id="3045-25">Neo Geo AES</a> on December 11, 1992. Along with the standard <a href="/neo-geo-cd/3045-59/" data-ref-id="3045-59">Neo Geo CD</a> port (exclusively in Japan) on February 25, 1995, the game was also ported to the <a href="/fm-towns/3045-108/" data-ref-id="3045-108">FM Towns</a> (in November 1993, exclusive in Japan and published by <a href="/ving/3010-4561/" data-ref-id="3010-4561">Ving</a>), <a href="/genesis/3045-6/" data-ref-id="3045-6">Sega Genesis</a> (in 1994, exclusive in North America, developed by <a href="/nexus-interact/3010-7361/" data-ref-id="3010-7361">Nexus Interact</a> and published by <a href="/american-sammy-corporation/3010-1045/" data-ref-id="3010-1045">American Sammy</a>), and <a href="/sharp-x68000/3045-95/" data-ref-id="3045-95">Sharp X68000</a> (on January 20, 1995, exclusive in Japan and developed by Nexus Interact). An enhanced version was also developed for the <a href="/playstation/3045-22/" data-ref-id="3045-22">Sony PlayStation</a> by <a href="/visual-concepts/3010-893/" data-ref-id="3010-893">Visual Concepts</a> (and published by <a href="/electronic-arts/3010-1/" data-ref-id="3010-1">Electronic Arts</a>), which was published only in North America (on November 28, 1995) and Europe (in June 1996).</p><p>Viewpoint was set to receive a fully 3D sequel, Viewpoint 2064, for the <a href="/nintendo-64/3045-43/" data-ref-id="3045-43">Nintendo 64</a> but the release was scrapped when the game was in its final prototype form. <a href="/racjin-co-ltd/3010-3449/" data-ref-id="3010-3449">Racdym</a> (later Racjin) was the developer while the original developers of Viewpoint, Sammy, were set to publish. The prototype has since been made available on the internet and has also seen a fan translation.</p>
