Olsztyn Olsztyn is located in Warmia and Mazuria region. Due to its nature the region is considered to be one of the most beautiful Polish regions and is sometimes called the Land of Thousand Lakes, but there are more than twice as much. The largest lakes are Śniardwy (113.8 km2) and Mamry (104.4 km2), the deepest is Wukśniki (68m). Some of these lakes, canals and rivers create many kilometers of waterways. The richness of the region is forests occupying almost 30% of its area with a number of landscaped parks and nature reserves. Beautiful natural landscape is completed with well-preserved gothic castles, churches and palaces. Touristic places and artifacts make the region visited annually by average of 5 million visitors and one in five tourists is coming from abroad.
