<h2>Overview</h2><p>NFL Blitz 2000, also known in the arcade version as <em>NFL Blitz 2000 Gold Edition</em>, is an over-the-top 3D football game developed and released by <a href="https://www.giantbomb.com/midway-games/3010-185/" data-ref-id="3010-185">Midway</a> for <a href="https://www.giantbomb.com/arcade/3045-84/" data-ref-id="3045-84">arcades</a> in 1999. It also received a special arcade conversion kit called the <em>Midway SportStation</em>, where players can switch between the game and <a href="/nba-showtime-nba-on-nbc/3030-4632/" data-ref-id="3030-4632">NBA ShowTime: NBA on NBC</a>.</p><p>The third installment of the <a href="/nfl-blitz/3025-477/" data-ref-id="3025-477">NFL Blitz</a> series and the last to be released in arcades, NFL Blitz 2000 updates the roster for the <a href="https://www.giantbomb.com/national-football-league/3015-1589/" data-ref-id="3015-1589">NFL's</a> 1999 season while adding audibles (allowing players to switch plays/formations prior to the snap), new plays (including team-specific plays), and a bonus "Customize Gameplay" menu that allows players to change various parts of the game (including the field, the playbook, and the CPU difficulty) without the use of Match-Up Codes.</p><p>It also received home conversions for both the <a href="/nintendo-64/3045-43/" data-ref-id="3045-43">Nintendo 64</a> and <a href="/playstation/3045-22/" data-ref-id="3045-22">Sony PlayStation</a> on July 31, 1999, with a <a href="/dreamcast/3045-37/" data-ref-id="3045-37">Sega Dreamcast</a> conversion by <a href="/avalanche-software-llc/3010-970/" data-ref-id="3010-970">Avalanche Software</a> on September 31, 1999 and a <a href="/pc/3045-94/" data-ref-id="3045-94">PC</a> port by <a href="/point-of-view-inc/3010-417/" data-ref-id="3010-417">Point of View</a> on October 31, 1999. It also received a handheld conversion for the <a href="/game-boy-color/3045-57/" data-ref-id="3045-57">Game Boy Color</a> by <a href="/digital-eclipse-software-inc/3010-532/" data-ref-id="3010-532">Digital Eclipse</a> on December 8, 1999 (where unlike the GBC version of the original <a href="/nfl-blitz/3030-8417/" data-ref-id="3030-8417">NFL Blitz</a>, the game is played in a <a href="/belt-scrolling/3015-8588/" data-ref-id="3015-8588">belt-scrolling</a> perspective).</p><h2>Trivia</h2><ul><li>In <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/video/6159518/">episode ten of Button Mashing</a>, Jeff proclaimed that he and his life long rival Vince were the best NFL Blitz players on the planet. They had an intense battle but in the end Jeff was the victor.</li><li>The Denver Broncos have the highest stats of any team in the game.</li></ul>
