It later received a "Ver.B" revision that fixes several gameplay aspects, with a re-release unlocking all the hidden characters from the start.</p><p>It is set two years after the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, where <a href="/kazuya-mishima/3005-534/" data-ref-id="3005-534">Kazuya Mishima</a> defeated his father <a href="/heihachi-mishima/3005-535/" data-ref-id="3005-535">Heihachi</a> and became the new ruthless CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu. After learning of Heihachi's return, Kazuya decides to form another King of the Iron Fist Tournament to draw out and rid his enemies once and for all. Chief among the competitors are <a href="/jun-kazama/3005-536/" data-ref-id="3005-536">Jun Kazama</a>, a jujutsu practitioner who senses Kazuya's supernatural presence.</p><p>The game received a home console port for the <a href="https://www.giantbomb.com/playstation/3045-22/" data-ref-id="3045-22">Sony PlayStation</a> in Japan on March 1996, in North America on August 1996, and in Europe on October 1996. This version was later digitally released for compatible PlayStation Network consoles (as a <a href="/psone-classics/3015-8405/" data-ref-id="3015-8405">PSOne Classics</a> title) in Japan on November 22, 2006, in North America on December 4, 2006, and in Europe on August 4, 2010.</p><h2>Characters</h2><figure data-align="right" data-img-src="https://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg" data-ref-id="1300-813644" data-size="small" data-ratio="0.75" data-width="600" data-embed-type="image" style="width: 600px"><a class="fluid-height" style="padding-bottom:75.0%" href="https://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg" data-ref-id="1300-813644"><img alt="Tekken 2's characters" src="https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/scale_small/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg" srcset="https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/original/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg 600w, https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/scale_medium/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg 480w, https://www.giantbomb.com/a/uploads/scale_small/1/12872/813644-tekken2characters.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" data-width="320"></a><figcaption>Tekken 2's characters</figcaption></figure><p>The game includes 23 playable characters, 25 if counting both Kazuya's "Devil" form and Angel, as well as both Roger and Alex, as unique characters. Earlier arcade versions, as well as the PS1 version, only had 10 of these characters playable from the start, with the others as hidden opponents.</p><p>Unlike in the previous game, all hidden characters can be playable in the Arcade version, either as time-based unlocks or cheat commands, although they were made playable from the start in later versions. In the PS1 version, they are unlocked after certain conditions are met (usually clearing the game with certain other fighters).</p><p>Although Jun is typically unlocked by default in both the Arcade and PS1 versions, this can be changed by operators in certain Arcade versions to Baek for the <a href="/south-korea/3035-2410/" data-ref-id="3035-2410">Korean</a> market. This can also affect their sub-boss, with the default character's sub-boss being Wang and the hidden character's sub-boss being Law.</p><h4>New Additions</h4><ul><li><strong><a href="/jun-kazama/3005-536/" data-ref-id="3005-536">Jun Kazama</a></strong> - A <a href="/japan/3035-37/" data-ref-id="3035-37">Japanese</a> officer of the wildlife protection organization WWWC, entering the tournament using her family's style of traditional <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jujutsu" data-target="true" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">jujutsu</a> in order to arrest Kazuya for smuggling protected animals.</li></ul><ul><li><strong><a href="/lei-wulong/3005-1936/" data-ref-id="3005-1936">Lei Wulong</a></strong> - A <a href="/china/3035-343/" data-ref-id="3035-343">Chinese</a> <a href="/police/3015-1011/" data-ref-id="3015-1011">detective</a> of <a href="/hong-kong/3035-1083/" data-ref-id="3035-1083">Hong Kong's</a> International Police Force, entering the tournament using his unique brand of <a href="/kung-fu/3015-1045/" data-ref-id="3015-1045">kung fu</a> (with elements of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritual_Kung_Fu" data-target="true" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">wÇ” xÃng quán</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Master" data-target="true" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">zuì quán</a>) to investigate Kazuya's connections with the International Mafia.</li></ul><p>Hidden Opponents</p><ul><li><strong><a href="/baek-doo-san/3005-2535/" data-ref-id="3005-2535">Baek Doo San</a></strong> - A <a href="/south-korea/3035-2410/" data-ref-id="3035-2410">Korean</a> master of <a href="/taekwondo/3015-5286/" data-ref-id="3015-5286">Taekwondo</a> and former champion of the sport, blackmailed into attacking the martial arts school of Marshall Law.
