Set in the whimsical and cheery town of <a href="/whoville/3035-2397/" data-ref-id="3035-2397">Whoville</a> and other nearby areas of Wholand, players control the <a href="/misanthropy/3015-8626/" data-ref-id="3015-8626">misanthrophic</a> furry green creature <a href="/the-grinch/3005-4060/" data-ref-id="3005-4060">The Grinch</a> as he sets out to ruin the spirit of Christmas by pranking the Who's and destroying <a href="/present/3055-1291/" data-ref-id="3055-1291">presents</a>, all with the help of his many mechanical inventions (as well as his pet dog, <a href="/max-the-dog/3005-39884/" data-ref-id="3005-39884">Max</a>).</p><p>The game also received a handheld version for the <a href="/game-boy-color/3045-57/" data-ref-id="3045-57">Game Boy Color</a> by <a href="/konami-computer-entertainment-nagoya-co-ltd/3010-3908/" data-ref-id="3010-3908">KCE Nagoya</a> (released worldwide at the same time as the console version). Instead of a port of the console version, it is changed into an overhead arcade-style maze game (where players navigate through multi-room mazes as either The Grinch or Max to steal presents while <a href="/stealth/3015-24/" data-ref-id="3015-24">sneaking</a> around the Who's). It is based more on the children's book more than the film and is notable for being the only video game adaptation of Dr. Seuss source material from a Japanese developer.</p><h2>Gameplay</h2><p>The Grinch is an action adventure game in which you primarily prank the Who's, collect items and collect blueprints. The gameplay takes place in entirely 3D environments where you will run around with the goal of ruining Christmas for the Who's. You will mainly destroy their gifts or destroy something else Christmas related. You will collect different blue prints in the levels also which help gain the Grinch use of different gadgets. The use of these gadgets is for creating more misery for the different Who's.</p>
