About
The first home console adaptation of Legend of the Galactic Heroes by Kemco is much more simplified than Bothtec's better-known computer game. Upon pressing Start to get past the intro loop, you are immediately put into the story campaign in which you play on the side of the Galactic Empire. The goal of the campaign is to conquer Heinessen. You start out with one planet and three fleets while the Free Planet Alliance controls the rest of the galactic map. The game is played out in turns (called "days"), you can give one command to each fleet per day, which is one of the following 4: Mobilize, Reconnaissance, Rest and Resupply. There is no management of ship types and weapon types in this simplified home console adaptation, a fleet is treated as a whole unit and has 5 stats: Mobility Power: Basically a speed stat, inversely proportional to the number of days it will take for a fleet to travel between planets. Energy: Consumed for mobilization. If the energy level is not enough for a trip, you must spend a turn to Resupply until you have enough. Rations, Fleet Damage and Troop Fatigue: These 3 stats work in conjunction with each other. Each fleet consumes 3% Rations/day. If a fleet runs out of Rations, its Troop Fatigue increases each day. If Troop Fatigue is at 100%, Fleet Damage increases by 10%/day. A fleet is destroyed when Fleet Damage reaches 100%. At Resupply-capable planets, the Resupply command can increase Energy and Rations as well as decrease Fleet Damage. Rest command will decrease Troop Fatigue and does not depend on the type of planet a fleet is stationed at. Fleet Damage can also be incurred in combat, which in this game only involves countering each other's formations. There are 7 formations you can arrange a fleet in and the way they interact with other formations is akin to rock-paper-scissor mechanic. FPA fleets don't change their formation during battles that last multiple days, but you can. You can find out a FPA fleet's formation ahead of time via the Reconnaissance command, among other information. Fleet commanders only have the Mobility Power stat to differentiate between them, but there is one exception: On the FPA side, Yang Wen-li has an extra special multiplier which tips the balance of a battle loss calculations to his favor.
