<h2>Overview</h2><p>Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku is a 2D sci-fi fantasy action-RPG developed by <a href="/webfoot-technologies-inc/3010-2258/" data-ref-id="3010-2258">Webfoot</a> and published by <a href="/atari-sa/3010-548/" data-ref-id="3010-548">Infogrames</a> for the <a href="/game-boy-advance/3045-4/" data-ref-id="3045-4">Game Boy Advance</a> in North America (on May 14, 2002) and Europe (on October 4, 2002).</p><p>Based on <a href="/dragon-ball/3025-971/" data-ref-id="3025-971">the Dragon Ball manga and anime series</a>, The Legacy of Goku follows an adaptation of the two earliest <a href="/dragon-ball-z/3025-159/" data-ref-id="3025-159">Dragon Ball Z</a> storylines (the "Saiyan Saga" and the "Namek Saga"). Players control <a href="/goku/3005-441/" data-ref-id="3005-441">the eponymous hero</a> as he makes his way to rescue his son <a href="/gohan/3005-443/" data-ref-id="3005-443">Gohan</a> from the <a href="/saiyan/3015-58/" data-ref-id="3015-58">Saiyan</a> invader <a href="/raditz/3005-554/" data-ref-id="3005-554">Raditz</a>, travels the <a href="/the-afterlife/3015-1851/" data-ref-id="3015-1851">afterlife</a> to train with <a href="/king-kai/3005-24026/" data-ref-id="3005-24026">King Kai</a>, makes his way to fight Saiyan invaders <a href="/nappa/3005-553/" data-ref-id="3005-553">Nappa</a> and <a href="/vegeta/3005-445/" data-ref-id="3005-445">Vegeta</a>, and travels to the planet <a href="/planet-namek/3035-71/" data-ref-id="3035-71">Namek</a> to gather the planet's <a href="/dragon-balls/3055-278/" data-ref-id="3055-278">Dragon Balls</a> (while fighting the forces of universal emperor <a href="/frieza/3005-444/" data-ref-id="3005-444">Frieza</a>). The game includes various RPG-style sub-quests detracting from the main story (such as Goku gathering <a href="/flowers/3055-632/" data-ref-id="3055-632">flowers</a> for a villager and foiling a <a href="/robbery/3015-3281/" data-ref-id="3015-3281">bank robbery</a>).</p><p>It is the first adaptation of the series to be developed by an overseas studio and is the first game to not receive a release in the series' native Japan. The game later received two sequels: <a href="/dragon-ball-z-the-legacy-of-goku-ii/3030-11173/" data-ref-id="3030-11173">Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II</a> and <a href="/dragon-ball-z-buus-fury/3030-5355/" data-ref-id="3030-5355">Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury</a>, all of which make up the entire Dragon Ball Z arc.</p>
