About

Commemorating Chiyonofuji Mitsugu's first ever 1000 wins in professional sumo wrestling is a Famicom sumo game bearing his name. Chiyonofuji no Ōichō is more complicated than its peers on the Famicom, having more moves you can do by combining directional buttons with A and B, which further contextually perform different actions depending on whether you are in a grapple or not. Each fighter will also have 2 gauges: energy and stamina which combined with factors such as whether you have grabbed the opponent's mawashi (not automatically done when you get into a grapple) determine the chance of success for your moves. Energy is charged by pressing Down, but it can be reduced by your opponent's attacks and it will loop back to 0 if you keep pressing Down when it reaches max value. Stamina automatically ticks down as the match goes on. In the main game mode - Rank Mode, you create a customized wrestler by giving him a name and customizing his face sprite and begin competing to climb the rank of professional sumo. In-between tournaments, you are taken to a training menu where you can engage in practicing matches and mini-games to earn points to assign to your stats. The rest of the game modes are: Rank Spectating Mode: Create a customized character in the same way as Rank Mode but give the control to the AI and spectate AI vs AI matches. Exhibition Versus Mode: Play a series of exhibition matches against another player on controller 2. Exhibition Computer Mode: Play a series of exhibition matches against the AI. Exhibition Spectating Mode: Spectate a series of exhibition matches between 2 AI players. Practice Mode: A match against an easy AI with a move list shown above the ring.
