<h2>Overview</h2><p>Cyborg 009 is a side-scrolling shooter game exclusive to the Japanese Mega-CD. It is based on the Osamu Tezuka manga and anime <a href="/cyborg-009/3025-2624/" data-ref-id="3025-2624"><em>Cyborg 009</em></a>, about a group of people kidnapped from all over the world by the Black Ghost organization and transformed into deadly cyborgs against their will. They are rescued by a sympathetic scientist, Professor Gilmore, and now fight against Black Ghost to prevent more abductions. </p><p>The game takes plot elements from several manga arcs to construct its narrative, as well as using the character designs from the 1980 movie, <em>Cyborg 009: Legend of the Super Galaxy</em>, for its animated cutscenes. Unlike the Super Famicom <a href="/cyborg-009/3030-38306/" data-ref-id="3030-38306">Cyborg 009</a>, the titular cyborg (also known as Joe) is the only playable character. Gameplay resembles other run-and-gun shooters like <a href="/contra-hard-corps/3030-13902/" data-ref-id="3030-13902">Contra: Hard Corps</a> or <a href="/gunstar-heroes/3030-2190/" data-ref-id="3030-2190">Gunstar Heroes</a>: 009 takes out enemies with his Super Gun, eventually fighting a boss at the end of each level.</p>
