The PS2 version later received a Japanese release by <a href="/capcom/3010-367/" data-ref-id="3010-367">Capcom</a> on May 27, 2004 under the title <em>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2003</em>.</p><p>The fourth installment of the long-running <a href="/tony-hawk/3025-10/" data-ref-id="3025-10">Tony Hawk</a> series and the sequel to <a href="/tony-hawks-pro-skater-3/3030-5688/" data-ref-id="3030-5688">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3</a>, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 features a revamped Career Mode where instead of completing goals through time-limited runs of each area, players skate around each area with no time limit (similar to Free Skate mode of previous games) and find goals to complete. It also adds a new assortment of tricks, including Flatland Tricks, Grind and Lip Trick Extensions, <a href="/skitching/3015-4902/" data-ref-id="3015-4902">skitching</a> vehicles, and Spine Transfers (which allow players to switch between connecting quarter-pipes or self-right themselves to exit quarter-pipes without bailing). It is the last mainline game in the series to bear the "Pro Skater" name in 10 years, before <a href="/tony-hawks-pro-skater-hd/3030-37026/" data-ref-id="3030-37026">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD</a> and <a href="/tony-hawk-s-pro-skater-5/3030-48191/" data-ref-id="3030-48191">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5</a>.</p><p>It also received conversions by <a href="/blizzard-albany/3010-519/" data-ref-id="3010-519">Vicarious Visions</a> for the <a href="/playstation/3045-22/" data-ref-id="3045-22">PlayStation</a> and <a href="/game-boy-advance/3045-4/" data-ref-id="3045-4">Game Boy Advance</a>, released alongside the original releases. The PS1 version is notable for running on a modified Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 engine, while the GBA version uses the same <a href="/isometric-viewpoint/3015-246/" data-ref-id="3015-246">isometric viewpoint</a> as the developers' previous ports of the series. It also received a release for the <a href="/zodiac/3045-64/" data-ref-id="3045-64">Zodiac</a> in 2004, using a similar isometric perspective, and received releases for the <a href="/pc/3045-94/" data-ref-id="3045-94">PC</a> and <a href="/mac/3045-17/" data-ref-id="3045-17">Mac</a> by <a href="/aspyr-media-inc/3010-388/" data-ref-id="3010-388">Aspyr</a> on August 2003.</p><p>Keeping in tradition with the series, the game features multiple hidden <a href="/crossover/3015-732/" data-ref-id="3015-732">crossover characters</a>, with this game including <a href="/jango-fett/3005-2596/" data-ref-id="3005-2596">Jango Fett</a> (a bounty hunter from the <a href="/star-wars/3025-551/" data-ref-id="3025-551">Star Wars</a> media franchise) and <a href="/eddie-the-head/3005-22645/" data-ref-id="3005-22645">Eddie the Head</a> (the mascot of the band <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Maiden" rel="nofollow ">Iron Maiden</a>). Porn actress <a href="/jenna-jameson/3040-63765/" data-ref-id="3040-63765">Jenna Jameson</a> also portrays the hidden skater <a href="/daisy/3005-11700/" data-ref-id="3005-11700">Daisy</a>.</p><h2>Gameplay</h2><p>The core skating mechanics are mostly unchanged from previous games, but one major new feature is the spine transfer, which allows players to either switch to a ramp on the other side of a vert, level off when launched away from a ramp, or land correctly into a ramp if entering from a flat area.</p><p>Also new to the game are pogo tricks, performed during manuals by tapping one of the face buttons. Depending on the trick, the skater will perform a handstand on the board or stand on the side of the board. Extensive use of the pogo system is effective during combos.</p><p>The way goals are received is much different from previous games, adopting a sandbox-style system where goals are given by characters around the level. Completing a goal is rewarded with stat points that can assigned, and sometimes special trick slots. The game also reintroduces the concept of money, which was present in THPS 2 but not 3. Small amounts of money can be found throughout the level, usually by going up a ramp or grinding rails.</p><p>Each skater, including the custom skater, has a unique "end" goal, which is often very elaborate. Completion of the goal nets a highlight video of the chosen skater, if using a pro skater.</p><p>A limited version of <a href="/tony-hawks-pro-skater-2/3030-990/" data-ref-id="3030-990">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2</a>'s currency system returns (by completing objectives and special mini-games, as well as collecting cash pickups, players can buy clothes for the Create-A-Skater mode, decks, movies, cheats, secret skaters, and hidden levels).</p><h2>Characters</h2><h3>Initial Characters</h3><ul><li><a href="/tony-hawk/3005-13/" data-ref-id="3005-13">Tony Hawk</a></li><li><a href="/bob-burnquist/3005-338/" data-ref-id="3005-338">Bob Burnquist</a></li><li><a href="/kareem-campbell/3005-6034/" data-ref-id="3005-6034">Kareem Campbell</a></li><li><a href="/steve-caballero/3005-6037/" data-ref-id="3005-6037">Steve Caballero</a></li><li><a href="/rune-glifberg/3005-6036/" data-ref-id="3005-6036">Rune Glifberg</a></li><li><a href="/eric-koston/3005-6031/" data-ref-id="3005-6031">Eric Koston</a></li><li><a href="/bucky-lasek/3005-6028/" data-ref-id="3005-6028">Bucky Lasek</a></li><li><a href="/bam-margera/3005-62/" data-ref-id="3005-62">Bam Margera</a></li><li><a href="/rodney-mullen/3005-6035/" data-ref-id="3005-6035">Rodney Mullen</a></li><li><a href="/chad-muska/3005-6029/" data-ref-id="3005-6029">Chad Muska</a></li><li><a href="/andrew-reynolds/3005-6042/" data-ref-id="3005-6042">Andrew Reynolds</a></li><li><a href="/geoff-rowley/3005-6032/" data-ref-id="3005-6032">Geoff Rowley</a></li><li><a href="/elissa-steamer/3005-6030/" data-ref-id="3005-6030">Elissa Steamer</a></li><li><a href="/jamie-thomas/3005-6033/" data-ref-id="3005-6033">Jamie Thomas</a></li></ul><h3>Hidden Characters</h3><ul><li><a href="/eddie-the-head/3005-22645/" data-ref-id="3005-22645">Eddie</a> (Iron Maiden Mascot)</li><li><a href="/jango-fett/3005-2596/" data-ref-id="3005-2596">Jango Fett</a></li><li><a href="/mike-vallely/3040-63810/" data-ref-id="3040-63810">Mike Vallely</a></li><li><a href="/daisy/3005-11700/" data-ref-id="3005-11700">Daisy</a></li><li>Little Person (resembles an Oompa Loompa - PS1 version only)</li><li>Frycook (GBA version only)</li><li>Mindy (GBA version only)</li><li>Momo (GBA version only)</li><li>Roger (GBA version only)</li></ul><p>In the game's Create-a-Skater mode, apparel can be unlocked to create <i>Officer Dick</i> and <i>Ollie the Magic Bum</i> from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.</p><h2>Levels</h2><ul><li><a href="/college/3035-1164/" data-ref-id="3035-1164">College</a></li><li><a href="/san-francisco/3035-191/" data-ref-id="3035-191">San Francisco</a></li><li><a href="/alcatraz/3035-1165/" data-ref-id="3035-1165">Alcatraz</a></li><li><a href="/kona-skate-park/3035-2970/" data-ref-id="3035-2970">Kona</a></li><li><a href="/shipyard/3035-4282/" data-ref-id="3035-4282">Shipyard</a></li><li><a href="/london/3035-212/" data-ref-id="3035-212">London</a></li><li><a href="/zoo/3035-1551/" data-ref-id="3035-1551">Zoo</a> (unavailable in the PS1 version)</li><li>Carnival (unavailable in the PS1 version)</li><li><a href="/chicago/3035-293/" data-ref-id="3035-293">Chicago</a> (from <a href="/mat-hoffmans-pro-bmx-2/3030-7099/" data-ref-id="3030-7099">Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2</a>, unavailable in the PS1 version)</li><li>Sewers (PS1 version only)</li><li>Little Big World (PS1 version only)</li></ul><h2>Soundtrack</h2><table><tbody><tr><th>Song</th><th>Artist</th></tr><tr><td>T.N.T</td><td>AC/DC</td></tr><tr><td>Labor</td><td>Aesop Rock</td></tr><tr><td><i>Bloodstains (Darkness Version)</i></td><td>Agent Orange</td></tr><tr><td><i>Simple Song</i></td><td>Avail</td></tr><tr><td><i>Manthem</i></td><td>The Bouncing Souls</td></tr><tr><td><i>Bad Dream</i></td><td>City Stars</td></tr><tr><td><i>Bad Fun</i></td><td>The Cult</td></tr><tr><td><i>Oodles of O's</i></td><td>De La Soul</td></tr><tr><td><i>House of the Rising Drum</i></td><td>Delinquent Habits</td></tr><tr><td><i>Seneca Falls</i></td><td>The Distillers</td></tr><tr><td><i>Big Shots</i></td><td>Eyedea &amp;
