About

Overview

Dirt Racer is a polygonal racing game from MotiveTime and Elite Systems. It is one of a handful of SNES games to use the Super FX chip to create 3D models for its gameplay, along with other Super FX-supported games like Star Fox and Stunt Race FX. It was released exclusively in Europe in 1995.

The player can use one of three vehicles for each race: a speedy buggy that is harder to control, a monster truck that handles well but moves slow, and an all-rounder stock car vehicle. Players can take part in a League or a Tournament, and their progress is saved by a password system. The game has five different tracks in total and supports up to eight players, though only two can play at once.

A novel feature of the game is an indicator in the top corner that tells the player whether they are winning or losing a race; this is represented by a smiley face that changes depending on the player's situation. All races are one-on-one, so the player can only ever be first or last.
