Famista '89 marks the first time the Family Stadium series officially adopts the abbreviated name. Compared to the previous year's entry, Famista '89 brings few changes to speak of aside from the roster update: Players created in the Team Edit mode (now renamed Player Edit) can now be used in non-custom teams. The team-wide stat pool in Player Edit has been removed, effectively enabling max stats on all custom players. The password system has returned. 2 new all-star teams consisting of high-stat players that you can only play against (you can't select them as your starting team) at the end of the season.
