About

Overview

Ghostbusters II is an action game based on the 1989 movie of the same name, which sees the four former professional Ghostbusters - Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore - called back into action to foil the schemes of Vigo the Carpathian, a 16th century tyrant and sorcerer, who is aiming be reborn in the 20th century using Dana Barrett's baby, Oscar, as his vessel.

Every variant of the game has some similar set-pieces and level design taken from the movie, including the sequence where the Ghostbusters use the mood slime to control the Statue of Liberty via a NES Advantage, but with some minor differences in each version. The computer games, developed by Foursfield and Dynamix, focuses on three scenes in particular: Ray descending into the sewers to collect mood slime for analysis, the Ghostbusters marching the Statue of Liberty over to the art museum to create a way in, and the quartet defeating Vigo the Carpathian with a combination of mood slime and their proton packs. The NES version from Imagineering, meanwhile, has a series of side-scrolling stages that include driving sequences in the Ecto-1 and the Statue of Liberty.

The game is not to be confused with New Ghostbusters II, which was released by HAL Laboratory on NES and Game Boy in the same year (the Game Boy version dropped the "New" in the title, leading to some ambiguity).
