Aside from the roster update that adds a few more teams, Pro Yakyū Family Stadium '88 also made other gameplay changes compared to the previous Famista entry. The most major addition in this entry is the Team Edit feature which lets you name your own team, name your own players and customize their stats. Player stats are constrained by a team-wide stat pool. There are now 4 different stadiums to choose from which vary by their outfield fence distances and heights. A new mechanic called "Lucky 7" was added in this entry. Everytime you reach the 7th inning, all players from both teams receive a stat boost. The last major change in this entry is the removal of all progress-saving methods (no battery save and no password), forcing you to play an entire season in one session. This also affects the new Team Edit feature - your custom team only persists for as long as you keep the game running.
